First make your Snowmen out of Polymer Clay. Make different sized round balls out of white polymer clay. Stick a toothpick or wire thought all 3 formed balls to help keep your snowman together. Leave the toothpick stick out of the bottom about 1/2 inch to insert it in the clay that's in the bottom of the jar. (see Jar Instructions below) Insert Black seed beads for eyes.
Form carrot nose and bake separately. Glue them in place with hot glue after baking. Use a toothpick and poke holes for mouth. After snowman is baked, use a toothpick to dip in black acrylic paint and re-insert them into the same holes you made for the mouth. This will help your mouth to show up better. For the arms shape brown wire into sticks or use real sticks. Put in before baking.
Clear coat everything after baked and cooled with acrylic gloss clear coat. Tie a scrap of fabric around the neck for a scarf. I used pinking shears around the edges of the scarf.
Make several different sized snowmen for your jar. This way you will have a variety to choose from if one doesn't look or fit where you want it in the jar. |

- Insert your already baked clay figures. ( I use a very long tweezers to insert my figures down into the clay in the jar. I also used a miniature pine tree in the back of the snowmen.) A good time to purchase them is right after Christmas.
- Use tacky glue around the edge of the jar and insert glass votive,. Let Dry.
- Clear coat your jars (on painted area only) I use acrylic gloss clear coat.
- Tie decorative ribbon around the mouth of the jar in a bow.

| Making Clay Penguins: Use Black and White Polymer Clay. Make a round black ball of clay for head. Make a long oval for body. Make a small white ball of clay and flatten it out. Shape it into a heart shape. Apply to the head to make the face of the penguin. Insert black seed beads for eyes. For the beak shape, make a small ball, squeeze between your thumb and forefinger at the middle of the ball to form the beak. You can see in the photo that I cut it in the middle to form the beak. Bake separately. For feet, flatten a 1/2 inch ball into an oval shape. Cut in half. Make a cut in two places to form toes. Flatten back of toot and attach it to the body before baking. Shape arms into the shape of a fin. Apply before baking.
You can also make a clay scarf and different shaped hats for your penguins. Or make them out of felt or fabric. After clay has been baked and cooled. Glue the beak to the face. Clear coat all pieces with gloss clear coat. Now they are ready to put in your jar candle.

You can see the glass votive in this jar candle. Paint the back of the jar for a back drop. Paint only a few inches up the jar. Use a Black permanent marker to make a design around the edge where you brought the paint line up to. Fill the bottom of the jar with white clay. Use Snow Tec, Glitter or broken up Styrofoam to look like snow. Add it to the clay in the bottom of the jar. Add the penguins with tweezers and set into place. As you can see I also used some fake pine in the back. If you want a real sparkle to your snow use some of the very fine glitter and sprinkle it all over after you have insert the penguins.
